We’re getting ready to end the ski season with fun activities for closing weekend, and looking forward to a couple months of quieter times and relaxation.
“Flauschink is Comink!” This is a local festival to celebrate the “flushing out of winter and welcoming of spring.” The main events are an historic slide show, coronation of the new King and Queen at a Polka Ball, a parade on Elk Avenue, and skiing to Flauschink Hill. The “Royal Has-Beens” will be in attendance, of course. For a calendar of the events, please visit https://gunnisoncrestedbutte.com/event/flauschink/
April 8 is the LandShark Pond Skim and 3rd Annual Rail Jam at the base area, with Apres music by Trout Steak Revival from 4-6pm. For those who have never witnessed the Pond Skim, it’s a wacky competition where skiers and snowboarders skim across a pond with most of them wearing hilarious costumes. The main event starts on Warming House Hill at 3pm. This year, the male and female winners will each win an all-expense paid trip to a Margaritaville resort in the US!
Sunday, April 9 is closing day at CBMR. Get your last turns in and spend some quality time with all your friends for a day full of fun and music. It’s been a great year with some epic snowfall, and there are sure to be some fascinating tales to be shared.
Just because the resort is closed doesn’t mean the world stops and there’s nothing to do!
In honor of Earth Day, April 20, The Crested Butte Film Festival (http://cbfilmfest.org/) and High Country Conservation Advocates (https://www.hccacb.org/) will feature the film Before the Flood at the Center for the Arts at 7pm. Crested Butte’s 5th Annual Pole Pedal Paddle (CB3P) will be held on April 30 from 10am-3pm. This is a great multi-sport endurance race for skiers, bikers, and kayakers. Participants can be individuals or teams, and it’s a great way to experience spring in the Rocky Mountains, and all the weather and terrain that comes with it. More information can be found at https://crestedbutte3p.com/
There are many movies to be watched, books to be read, meals to be cooked and enjoyed, and plentiful yoga and exercise classes to keep us busy. Take the dog for a longer walk than usual, sit on a bench in the sunshine, chat up your neighbors, and take a deep breath.
Enjoy your off-season!
